jennisney asked: Hey :) When did you actually send off your application? I wish I'd known about the program earlier :( wish I'd applied. Im gonna apply for 2013 :) I live in the UK! So I'm going for the ICP as well! :) I just wondered what kinda things did you write on your front cover thing? I'm so bad at writing! thanks :) x
Hi! So I sent off my application in mid-October 2011, and went through the interview process/was accepted by November 1st. I was lucky in that the process was super fast but then I had abut 9/10 months until my actual program would start. That was probably the hardest part, waiting to get there after all the excitement of being accepted! So I would recommend sending international recruitment an expression of interest email, including your CV. I didn’t really have to write a cover letter for mine (I know the Aus/NZ ICP is a bit different to the UK one, do you know if you’d be going for the Cultural Representative Program that lasts a year or the general College Program that goes for about 2-3 months?) I was very basic in what I sent, and again it might have been different, but along with my CV I sent this:
“Thanks for getting back to me!
I have looked at the information on the website and I am definitely interested and it looks like I am qualified for the program. I am attaching my CV to this email for your consideration. My current school is [Insert Uni] and I am studying a Bachelor of Arts, currently second year. The program sounds like it would be a wonderful and rewarding experience and I hope to hear back from you soon!
Thanks so much,
Olivia [Last Name]”
It’s good to be simple and to the point, but to let them know that you are interested. It would also be good if you say you are interested in starting 2013 and whether this is the best time to apply.
Let me know if you have any more questions!
