International College Program Application Process (Part 2)
As I said in my last post, my interview was conducted via Skype. This was strange. I had to usual pre-interview jitters plus added terror concerning my internet possibly failing, or a bad connection etc. The interview was scheduled for 8am (groan) so I woke up super early, put make-up on and a respectable top (definitely wanted to dress as if I were attending a proper interview) and signed into Skype at around 7:45am. 8:00am came… and passed. When it became 30 minutes after my scheduled time I was beyond freaked out. I sent a frantic email to the aus ICP contact asking whether something was wrong on my end or if the time was off etc.
They emailed back straight away saying they were terrible sorry, and that they had forgotten to call me. Haha. So basically they added me on Skype right away and began the interview. I’ll admit it shook me up a little bit but the recruiter so was nice (his name was Jeff) that I was put immediately at ease.
The interview questions weren’t really the same ones as what I’d heard are generally asked during CP phone interviews. The closest we got to those were my top roles, (Character Performer, Attractions, Front desk) and the rest of the interview was more of a chat, mixed with general questions I’ve found are asked in most interviews (tell me one skill you’ve learned from your current job etc). We did spend a lot of time talking about where I currently work (Apple Retail) aaaand that was basically it. When I said I was interested in character performing, he asked for my height, which I couldn’t remember exactly, because I’m an idiot. But he asked me to measure myself right after the interview and send it right on over, which I did.
All in all, it lasted about 20 minutes. I couldn’t stop smiling afterwards and bounding around the house because I felt like it went really well.
I found out about 4 days later that I was accepted, and was offered the double role of Character Performer and Attractions (A double role because I opted for the year-long program).
Anyway, my arrival date is August 4th and I can’t wait to meet all you guys out there. If anyone else is an Australian/New Zealander doing the same program, or has any questions (if anyone in general has questions, too, not just from the southern hemisphere!) please feel free to ask, or just say hi! =]
Back at uni, which means free time has diminished somewhat. Very sucky, but my classes seem interesting and challenging this semester which is exciting.
International College Program Application Process (Part 1)
I know interview posts/acceptance posts are all hither and thither on tumblr right now but because I’m doing the International College Program my experience was actually quite different.
I found out about the CP through tumblr (where else?) and then became super interested in the process. I looked through a multitude of blogs and became insanely jealous that this was something that could be done and ‘why wasn’t I born in America stupid parents stupid Australia being all the way on the other side of the world’ etc. Then after a little more digging around I discovered the ICP website. I don’t know if I can explain how thrilled I was when I saw that I had the opportunity to participate. If anyone had walked into my room at that point they probably would have thought I’d inhaled happy gas or something.
So, this, in dot point, is what happened after this:
- Frantically, I went into my resume folder and updated it. Made it look happy. But also professional.
- Sent my email and waited by my computer.
- Received a reply: “Our apologies, the program dates for 2012 are now closed. Please try again in 6 months. However, we will keep your data on file for any future opportunities.”
- CRIED.
- Over the next three days tried to forget everything
- Day four: ….
- EMAIL: “Requesting your response in scheduling an interview”
- :D :D :D
It did happen as suddenly as that. I don’t know what changed but they suddenly had availability for me. I was stoked. And rather nervous, considering it wasn’t a phone interview they wanted to schedule, it was one over Skype.
Anyway, I’ll continue this sometime soon =]
